Vision and Aims

Larne & Inver Primary School provides a safe and happy environment where all children are cared for and treated in a manner which encourages positive and varied learning experiences at all times. Through the use of a variety of available resources and ever changing technologies, each child will be given the opportunities to gain the knowledge and life skills necessary to succeed by creating ‘a bridge to the future.’

In fulfilling the requirements of the Northern Ireland Curriculum and in the belief that children should always remain the core focus for education, Larne & Inver Primary School aims –

  • To maintain and improve its welcoming environment through which all children and parents are aware of the high level of support and opportunities provided for them.
  • To value each child as an individual, promoting the importance of learning and high academic standards in a positive ethos of ‘best effort’ according to age, aptitude and ability at all times.
  • To help pupils develop lively enquiring minds through varied learning experiences using modern technology and evolving learning and teaching techniques.
  • To create positive school attitudes which encourage discipline through a Christian ethos where self/mutual respect and understanding are central to all learning experiences.
  • To provide a wide and varied programme of extended schools’ activities in order to further promote the opportunities for physical and social development through dependent and interdependent learning.
  • To encourage parental responsibilities through an active and positive partnership in the life and work of the school.
  • To encourage all children to have an awareness of, and respect for, the world we live in and a sense of responsibility for their local environment, both inside and outside of school.
  • To promote positive working relationships between all members of the school community whilst also maintaining and further developing links with the local and wider community.

Article 29 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) underlines our school’s visions and aims by clearly stating that:

“Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full. It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment”

Children’s Rights

As described in the CRC, our school will ensure that every child has:

  • The right to a childhood protected from harm.
  • The right to be educated.
  • The right to be healthy.
  • The right to be treated fairly.
  • The right to be heard.

We place the voice of the child at the centre of all we do which is underpinned by Articles 3 and 12 of the UNCRC:

Article 3: “The best interests of the child must be a top priority in all things that affect children”

Article 12: “Every child has the right to have a say in all matters affecting them and to have their views taken seriously”

We believe that there is no more important objective for a school than to help children discover who they are and how to lead happy and decent lives. Children should therefore be involved in decision-making throughout their school experience and their views given full consideration and explanation. Our vibrant curriculum is tailored to every child’s needs and provides opportunities for all children to make informed decisions and to grow into confident, active and responsible citizens.

Children are allowed to develop the skills of business and enterprise, with ‘state of the art’ technology at their fingertips to enhance learning. At all times, school staff members seek to inspire children with a love of learning and which will remain with them throughout their lives.

Consequently, based on the UNCRC, our Vision and Aims have been created and agreed with every child at the centre of all that we do.
