Eco Council

Welcome to our Eco Council page.  The Eco Council work together to provide the tools to promote and develop sustainability throughout our school.  Our council is made up of pupils from P5 – P7 and we work with members of the school community to ensure that everyone works together to improve the quality of our school and encourage environmentally friendly changes.

How it Works

We have elected new Eco Council members and we

  • Hold regular meetings
  • Choose 1 or 2 specific areas in the school to work on
  • Set appropriate and achievable targets
  • Link our ideas to our curriculum work
  • Check and monitor that successful improvements are being made
  • Keep the whole school and community up to date with progress

So far

  • We have developed our Eco Code in discussion with our school community.
  • We have developed the school grounds so that each class has their own area of responsibility, we have two ‘Bug Hotels’ and a hedgehog house. P5 make bird feeders and maintain a wildlife area. We are currently redeveloping the greenhouse.
  • We recycle as much as possible and the Eco Council monitor lights and computers to reduce energy consumption. We have also had solar panels installed.
  • As a school we encourage healthy lifestyle choices such as healthy eating and walking or scooting at least part of the way to school.
  • Through Education for Sustainability we learn about and consider issues which impact our environment.
